Question: Where should I light my Shabbat candles if fire is prohibited in my dorm?

Answer: Check out this week's newsletter!

With answers featuring Rav Meir Nehorai for the Israeli Ashkenaz opinion, Rav Kobi Gigi for the Edot HaMizrach opinion, Rabbi Daniel Feldman for the US Ashkenaz opinion, Rabbi Shaya Shagalow for the Chabad opinion, and Rav Binyamin Shalom for the Sfaradi opinion, you can find the opinion that fits your family's customs.

Our Mission:

College Life can be disorienting. You go from living at home to living in a dorm or an apartment building or a house, unmoored for the first time. Where before you could rely on your inherent knowledge of your family's halachic practices ("this is just what we do"), now you are faced with new questions and new difficulties. Maybe your new living situation doesn't allow fire in the building for Shabbat Candles. Maybe you only have one sink for all your dishes, and you've never had to worry about the Kashrut of a single sink.

Don't Worry. We've got you covered.

Designed for college students by college students, A College Student's Guide to Halacha aims to answer those questions you never knew you had until college. With a wide variety of Orthodox opinions, we want to ensure you can find your community's response to the questions that arise from being a student.
